Bonsai visits, activities, and other etceteralia

Yeah, I made that word up.

July has been buzzing with bonsai.  Its the time of year that Japanese Black Pines are candled and new buds form (10 days later, like clockwork).  Deciduous trees that can be defoliated usually are in July.  Watering takes up a lot of time.

Well, I posted a few pictures of some of my recent work with JBPs (and a Loblolly) and a couple of maples in the gallery.  It always seems so drastic until they start responding about 10 days to 2 weeks later.  The new leaves and bright green buds make it all worth it.   Also, anyone wanting some inspiration ought to take a good look at some pictures from the NC Arboretum’s bonsai collection taken on a recent trip to Asheville.  Its open to the public every day I believe, with special tours on the weekends.

Upcoming Bonsai News:

  • October 11 & 12, 2008 is the Carolina Bonsai Expo (reserve that date)
  • More details later about the workshops and demonstrations
  • Nick Lenz will be the special guest artist
